Convert a SRDF/Metro with DR configuration into a SRDF/Metro Smart DR configuration

SRDF/Metro Smart DR is a two-region high available (HA) disaster recovery (DR) solution. It integrates SRDF/Metro and SRDF/A enabling HA DR for a Metro session.

Prerequisites

  • The storage system must be running PowerMaxOS 5978 Q3 2020 or later.
  • See Roles and associated permissions to determine the user roles that can perform this task.
  • The selected Storage Group is protected with SRDF/Metro and has either an Asynchronous SRDF session or Adaptive Copy Disk session.
  • The existing Async or ACP disk session must be from the R1 storage system.
  • The Metro Session must be configured using a Witness.

About this task

To convert a SRDF/Metro with DR configuration into a smart DR configuration:

Steps

  1. Select the storage system.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Click Protection to view the Protection dashboard.
    • Click SRDF/Metro in the left panel
    • Select a storage group that is suitable for smart DR environment setup, click An icon showing three dots arranged in a vertical row, signifying a menu with more options, and click Convert to MetroDR.
    or
    • Click Storage > Storage Groups to view Storage Groups list view.
    • Select a Storage Group that is suitable for smart DR environment setup.
    • Click the SRDF link in the details panel to go to the Data Protection > SRDF tab view.
    • Select the Metro SRDF leg in the list view.
    • Click An icon showing three dots arranged in a vertical row, signifying a menu with more options and click Convert to MetroDR.
  3. Enter the smart DR environment name.
    The environment name can be up to 16 characters long, is case-sensitive, and can include alpha numeric characters and the dash ('-') and underscore ('_').
  4. Select Automatic or Manual for the SRDF Group.
    Selecting Manual allows you to select an SRDF Group (from a list of available SRDF Groups) for DR.
  5. Do one of the following:
    • Click Run Now to perform the operation now.
    • Expand Run Now and click Add to Job List to add this task to the job list, from which you can schedule or run the task at your convenience. For more information, see Schedule jobs and Preview jobs.
